Woodland Haven / Memory Care
Some change in memory is normal as we age. Sometimes that change
becomes more worrisome as a parent, grandparent, or spouse
begins having difficulty communicating, thinking and reasoning.
Someone who is in the early to middle stages of Alzheimer's or
dementia may reach a point where they need help with day-to-day
living. Caring for someone with Alzheimer's disease or dementia
can become overwhelming for family, friends and loved ones.
Woodland Haven is our secured memory care unit which provides a specially designed living and program environment for residents in the early to middle stages of Alzheimer's disease or dementia. Twenty eight of our residents live in Woodland Haven which is comprised of two distinct 14-bed homes. Each home has its own kitchen, activity space, dining room, living room and normalized environment. The layout of space and furnishings resembles the person's home where residents are richly occupied with meaningful things to do that were once a part of their earlier lives. Specially trained nursing and activity staff ensure that individual residents are understood and their individual schedules and preferences are honored and accommodated.
Residents of Woodland Haven meet the following criteria:
Diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease or dementia (early to middle stages)
Ability to perform some self-care tasks with assistance
Ability to ambulate independently or propel own wheelchair
Ability to sustain one of the diets provided
Ability to participate in and benefit from activity programming and behavioral management
Our Interdisciplinary Team meets with residents and family members regularly, ensuring that Woodland Haven can continue to meet their needs. When a resident can no longer live in Woodland Haven, our Team will work closely with family members to provide a smooth transition to another area of the Canal View -- Houghton County.
We are a certified Music & Memory facility.
