Facility Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) 

POSITION SUMMARY

Primary duties include, but not limited to: taking; noting and processing of physician orders; obtaining/sending out lab specimens and blood work accompanied by proper documentation; obtain consent and administer immunizations; perform subcutaneous and intradermal injections; perform basic labs when directed with follow-up to nurse; perform basic and sterile dressing changes; measure vital signs; assist with procedures; EKGs when ordered; participation in code blues; initiation and maintenance of Resident’s medical records; answering and directing phone calls; maintaining lab and appointment calendars; stocking unit; preparation of paperwork required for transfers, discharges and appointments; and providing assistance with resident care, physicians, nurses, visitors and therapies as needed.  All other duties as assigned or required.

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • CCMA certified, CPR certified (or willing to obtain within three (3) months of date of hire with assistance from the facility).  Certified Nurse Aide preferred.
  • Must be punctual and reliable.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask, and work independently and as a team player.
  • A positive and encouraging attitude.
  • Must have good communication skills, accurate and appropriate documentation skills, and be accepting of constructive criticism, with willingness to learn.
  • Experience in a clerical/secretarial position preferred, as well as, experience with computers.
  • Enjoy working in a fast paced environment.
  • Strong clinical and critical thinking skills.
  • Flexibility to assist with direct care as needed.
  • Understand physician orders and clarifying when required.
  • Willingness to draw blood, start IVs, administer injections/immunizations, obtain lab specimens, and perform basic labs and EKGs

SUMMARY OF OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURES

Blood borne Pathogens: Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue.

All procedures or other job related tasks that involve an inherent potential for mucus membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissues, or a potential for spills, splashes of them.

POSITION AUTHORITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY

Position reports to:  Director of Nursing and over sight by the Medical Director, as needed.

COGNITIVE AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS

Talking:  Necessary for communicating with physicians, nurses, employees and visitors.

Hearing:  Necessary for taking instructions from physicians, nurses and requests of residents.

Sight:  Necessary for doing job correctly and effectively.

Tasting and Smelling:  Smelling is required for accurate maintenance and detection of wounds, urinary tract problems, etc.

PRIMARY PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • The employee works mostly inside client rooms and/or Rehab Unit.
  • This position is classified as Category I for the purpose of exposure determination Under the OSHA regulations regarding the Standard of Occupational Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens (29 CFR 1910.1030).
    • Category I is defined as all procedures or job-related tasks that involve inherent risk for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissues, or a potential for spills and/or splashes of blood or body fluids. The use of protective equipment and measures is required for every employee engaged in Category I tasks.
